Summer Series Ceilidh

Summer Series Ceilidh continues Wednesday, Aug 4 at the Winsloe Lions Hall starting at 7:00.   Special guest Terry Dunsford will be joined by Ian Hunter, Peter Burke, Brian Blacqueire, Brian Knox and Judy Lowe.  There will be a 50/50 draw and canteen service available.    Admission at the door which opens at 6:00.   To reserve your ticket call 902-940-1217 or 902-894-9901.

PERSEID METEOR SHOWER (PEAK)

August 11, 2021

The Perseid meteor shower runs from around July 17 to Aug. 24, peaking across Canada tonight (Aug. 11-12,) according to the International Meteor Organization. (Though some sources pin the peak on the night of Aug. 12–13.)   LOOK UP!

Mayor’s BBQ

Mayor Philip Brown and Charlottetown City Council will be kicking off Country Days, presented by Old Home Week PEI with the Mayor’s Drive-Through BBQ & Ice Cream Social! . The drive-through BBQ will take place at the roundabout at the bottom of Queen Street in front of the 2021 number sign tomorrow: Friday, August 13th from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. or until quantities last. .For more information on the Mayor’s Annual BBQ, contact 902-566-5548.

Annual Fundraising sale, PEI Potters Studio

August 14, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The annual fundraising pottery sale for the PEI Potters Studio Coop will be held on Saturday, August 14 from 9 am to noon at The Farm Centre, located at 420 University Avenue in Charlottetown (building in between Sobeys and CBC). Pottery made by studio members and students will be available at great prices! The Gold Cup Parade Committee is pleased to announce the Gold Cup Parade Neighbourhood Tour, taking place Friday, August 20 in Charlottetown. The Neighbourhood Tour will commemorate the Gold Cup Parade with a select number of floats and will spread PEI spirit throughout various neighbourhoods in Charlottetown on the morning of August 20.

Birthday – ROCKY JOHNSON

August 24, 2021

Rocky Johnson (born Wayde Douglas Bowles; August 24, 1944 – January 15, 2020) was a Canadian professional wrestler born in Amhurst NS. Among many National Wrestling Alliance titles, he was the first black Georgia Heavyweight Champion. He won the World Tag Team Championship in 1983, along with his partner Tony Atlas, to become the first black champions in WWE history. He is the father of actor and former WWE wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

NATIONAL WAFFLE DAY

National Waffle Day celebrates the popular dish. This observance also commemorates the first Waffle Iron. Waffles are typically made with eggs, flour, and sugar. It is typically served as a breakfast dish. In 1869, Cornelius Swartwout invented the first waffle iron in the United States. A Waffle Iron is an appliance that consists of two metal pans that fold together to make the treat.
